Solan, May 11

A three-member team of officials from the Medical Council of India (MCI) today inspected the Nahan-based upcoming Dr YS Parmar Medial College and took stock of various facilities created there.

The state government has managed a staff of 240 persons, including 44 doctors, nurses and para-medicals, though it has drawn much flak for transferring key staff from various hospitals across the state.

The MCI team inspected records and various facilities in the building which has been upgraded from the district hospital into a medical college by undertaking need-based additions in the civil structure. Though this was not the first visit of the MCI team, the college staff was hopeful that this would pave the way for obtaining clearance for running the first batch of MBBS classes in the current session.

The MCI team will also decide about the intake of students which the college would have in its first year after taking into account the faculty strength and facilities created here.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda had also recently inspected the college. He had announced that Rs 190 crore would be released for creating various facilities like teaching, residential and hostel blocks. The Health Minister had also stated that it would add 100 MBBS seats to the institute though it remains to be seen how many seats would be approved for the first batch.
