Mild rain, snow in Mandi district

MANDI: Farmers of the district took a sigh of relief as mild rain has occurred today in lower parts of Mandi district and snowfall in the high-altitude areas.

Farmers of the district took a sigh of relief as mild rain has occurred today in lower parts of Mandi district and snowfall in the high-altitude areas. The farmers of the district had been in distress for a long time because of a long dry spell, which delayed apple crop.

Last snow was observed on December 13 and, thereafter, it was continue long dry spell.

The high-altitude areas like Shikari Devi, Janjehli, Rohanda, Barot and Prashar had been receiving mild snow since afternoon, while in lower parts of the district, there was a mild rainfall, which gave a sigh of relief to the farmers, who were waiting for it. Deputy Commissioner Rugved Thakur told The Tribune that the situation was normal and people were advised to refrain from venturing out in the next few days. He said the district administration was ready to deal with the winter crisis and all arrangements were made for which committees were constituted at the panchayat level.

In Kullu district, the weather had been cloudy since morning, where rainfall was observed in evening hours in Kullu. In Manali town, there was no rain or snowfall reported till filing the report.

Hoteliers and farmers were unhappy as the long dry spell was proving disastrous for tourism and horticulture.


Advisory for tourists

  • The high-altitude areas like Shikari Devi, Janjehli, Rohanda, Barot and Prashar had been receiving mild snow since afternoon, while in the lower parts of the district, there was a mild rainfall
  • DC Rugved Thakur said the situation was normal, but tourists should refrain from travelling to higher hills in the next few days.
