Former Union minister and AICC spokesperson Jatin Prasada today criticised Modi-led government for failing to revive economic growth in the country and check inflation as promised by him during the Lok Sabha elections.

“Modi came to power riding on the promises of “Achhe Din”, good governance, ease of doing business, 10 per cent GDP growth, creation of 10 crore jobs in five years, digital India and 50 per cent more profit to farmers but failed to fulfil these,” said Prasada, addressing a press conference here. HPCC president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and general secretaries Harshwardhan Chauhan and Harbhajan Singh Bhajji were also present.

He said Modi spoke to economists and industry watchers about a new “Economic Blueprint” for India but a year had passed and this blueprint seemed nowhere in sight. He said the insatiable quest for personal propaganda, event management and attractive slogans had made the Modi government as “headline government” rather than the investment government.

“Contrary to the high-decibel malicious campaign of the BJP, India witnessed highest-ever economic growth during the UPA government’s 10-year rule and the economy grew at an astounding average of 7.6 per cent,” he said.

He accused the Modi government of lacking economic vision and fiscal direction to propel India on growth trajectory and said even senior BJP leader Arun Shourie had judged the government as lacking in the financial direction. “Even the corporate and industrial sector is losing confidence in Modi magic,” he said.

AICC spokesperson said the NDA government had pitched “Make-in-India” initiative at every opportune moment, however, the Central Government had done nothing to address the challenges of building competitiveness in manufacturing demands, restructuring of inverted tax structure and resolving crucial logistics issues.

Prasada said despite reduction by 34 per cent in the prices of crude oil, the government had only reduced the prices of petrol and diesel by 7 per cent.
