The state government has come under attack from the BJP for tardy progress of road construction work along the China border in spite of availability of funds.
“The NDA government headed by Narendra Modi has provided funds for strengthening the road network along the Chinese border but the pace of work is progressing at a snail’s pace”, BJP Lok Sabha member from Mandi Parliamentary constituency Ram Swaroop Sharma said.
The Union government had released crores of rupees for roads in tribal Kinnaur district and road on the borders but the state government had failed to accelerate the pace of work, said Sharma, who is also vice president of the state BJP, after touring the Kinnaur district.
Sharma, who visited the Chitkul and Langpati checkposts of the ITBP, said the morale of jawans of the Army and paramilitary forces was very high but they are facing great hardship due to lack of road connectivity. He asked the Chief Minister to expedite the works.
Sharma alleged that the telecommunication services have also collapsed in Kinnaur district and several roads are closed due to landslides and farmers are facing problems in transporting their produce to major markets.
He made special reference of Urni in Kinnaur, which had become a major traffic bottleneck resulting in the closure of road due to lake of repairs.
