People facing inconvenience in procuring copy of police complaint of documents lost or misplaced during transit can heave a sigh of relief as the state police have launched a WhatsApp number for instant reporting of lost documents.

The Himachal Police is the first in the country to launch the WhatsApp number which will assist tourists and save them from the ordeal of running from pillar to post to get a copy of the police report.

WhatsApp No. 9459100100 will be functional round the clock and the person concerned will be required to type the place where the goods were lost, details of the goods, personal details of the person concerned and send it on the designated number.

The complainant will give his name, location, description of the lost articles or documents and a complaint will be registered instantly. The copy of the daily diary report (DDR) will be scanned by the police and a copy will be supplied on the mobile phone.

“It has been observed that tourists, including foreigners, often face hardship in case of loss of documents during transit and have to visit police station and wait for a copy of the complaint which is a pre-requisite for getting duplicate copies of documents. However, now they will instantly get the copy of the DDR,” said SR Mardi, Director General of Police.

In case, the complainant did not have WhatsApp facility on his mobile phone, he can register the complaint through SMS on this number, besides filing online complaint on the police website. The volume of such complaints is quite large.
