Nurpur, May 19

The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has stopped its Nurpur-Chandigarh Volvo bus service, leaving commuters in the lurch.

GS Bali, Transport Minister, had flagged off the Volvo bus from here on February 17 amid fanfare in the presence of Ajay Mahajan, local MLA. Commuters from Nurpur and surrounding areas visiting Talwara, Una, Nangal and Chandigarh who were availing the luxury bus service are facing hardship following the move.

Sources said the bus was shifted to the Sarkaghat-Bilaspur-Delhi route launched by the HRTC and a deluxe bus was started on the Nurpur-Chandigarh route last week. But the deluxe bus also stopped plying on this route three days ago, causing a lot of resentment among commuters especially students studying in various colleges in Chandigarh, who had been availing this service at 6 am from Nurpur.

Vijay Sapiya, Divisional Manager, HRTC, Dharamsala, said the management had replaced the Volvo bus with a deluxe bus due to poor earning on this route. He admitted that the deluxe bus had also been stopped it was not allowed to enter the Sector 43 ISBT, Chandigarh, under the pressure of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.
