The engine of the Baijnath-bound passenger train got derailed between Koparlahar and Kangra railway stations on Friday. No loss of life was reported and no passenger was injured. The rail traffic remained affected for nearly six hours, Railway police sources said here.

Yudhvir Singh, Station House Officer, Kangra Railway station, said Baijnath-bound train from Pathankot (No 52463 UP) got derailed between Koparlahar and Kangra railway stations at 9 am when the front two-wheels of the engine went off the track.

A major tragedy was averted as the engine got derailed just before it was to cross a bridge over the national highway near the Kangra railway station.

The traffic was disrupted on the narrow gauge track for nearly six hours, said Yudhvir Singh.

He said the rescue team reached the spot and the engine was again put back on the track after a few hours.

The derailed train was sent back to Pathankot and after 3 pm the rail traffic was resumed.
