The hills and valleys of Himachal continued to shiver under piercing cold wave conditions following further drop in minimum temperatures in spite of dry weather. Strong icy winds lashed the region and the pale sun failed to warm up the region.
The high altitude tribal areas had another spell of mild snowfall but there were no rain or snow in other parts of the state. Thick ground frost occurred at many places while the fog engulfed towns along the river banks during the morning hours.
The minimum temperatures stayed between minus nine and minus 14 degrees in high altitude tribal areas while Keylong, Kalpa and Manali recorded minimum temperatures at minus 7.0 degree, minus 2.8 degree and zero degree, respectively.
Mercury hovered around the freezing point at many places and Dalhousie, Solan, Palampur and Shimla shivered at 1.4 degree, 2.5 degree, 4.2 degree and 4.4 degree C. The mercury stayed below normal at most places and Sundernagar recorded minimum temperature at 5.0 degree, followed by Dharamsala and Bhuntar 5.4 degree, Una 7.3 degree and Nahan 7.5 degree.
The local MeT office has warned of intense cold wave conditions in lower hills over next three days and dry weather in the region for next six days up to December 21.
