To establish better communication with the public and check crime and illegal activities across the district, the Kangra police have launched a WhatsApp police helpline on Republic Day.

The district police administration has started receiving response from the public after launching this helpline. As per official information, the WhatsApp number (8988800100) will remain operational round the clock in the police control room and it will help women, girls, students and senior citizens who usually face problems and need police assistance.

In this connection, Kangra SP Sanjiv Gandhi told this correspondent that one person on official duty would monitor all information to be received on the police helpline.

The complaint would further be passed to the police station concerned and sub-divisional police officer. He said in case of information related to any crime, illegal activity like drug peddling or illegal mining the identity of the informer would be kept a secret. He asserted that this helpline would work as a facilitator to get police assistance speedily and would keep a close vigil on illegal activities in the district.
