With virtually no repair work having been executed on various roads of Dagshai cantonment for the past several months, motorists are a hassled lot as bad roads besides making driving tougher increase the wear and tear of vehicles.

“The condition of the two crucial roads which lead to Dagshai from Kumarhatti and another from Dosarka is equally pitiable with big potholes. A major portion of the road had worn away owing to lack of timely repair leading to uneven road surface,” said Mina, a schoolteacher who commutes on this road on a daily basis.

Though the area houses a significant cantonment where the movement of heavy vehicles is routine, the cantonment authorities had not bothered to keep the road in good condition. Though the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was being held on a dual basis by the CEO of Kasauli cantonment area, the officer was not available for comment.

The town houses various residential schools like Army Public School and Dagshai Public School, besides schools run by the state government and the area is visited by a number of people on a daily basis.

“The town not only faced neglect from the authorities but being in the domain of the cantonment the state government could do little to ensure that roads were repaired in time,” rued Manoj Kumar, another resident.

“As if the existing condition of the roads was not bad enough, the excavation work undertaken by BSNL for laying underground cable further added to its plight and it has worsened with the onset of the rains,” observed Rakesh Kumar, another resident. With the roads remaining in a state of neglect, residents are left to bear with the wear and tear of their vehicles and spend more on maintenance of their vehicles.
