Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will soon inaugurate the Rs 29 crore Gambher Khud Lift Water Scheme which will benefit 248 villages. This was stated by Minister for Irrigation and Public Health Mahender Singh Thakur, who convened a meeting of IPH officials here on Wednesday.

He said another water scheme for Ramshehar would be inaugurated later this month for 53 villages.

He exhorted the officials to construct check dams and collect water to deal with the problem of water shortage. He said the government was serious in its endeavour to ensure availability of water to all and such meetings were being organised in all districts.

The minister said a proposal worth Rs 800 crore had been sent to the Central Government for augmenting supply in the existing schemes. A meeting to chalk out the purchase-related issues was proposed for April 12.

He urged the officials to ensure testing of water at regular intervals to supply quality water to the people and said new hand pumps should be dug up at the places which are facing shortage of water.
