Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan said a committee has been formed to conduct inquiry into the matter of alleged discrimination with a group of students of a particular category at a high school in Chesta village during PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Pariksha Par Charcha’ speech on February 16.

Yunus said a committee headed by Kullu SDM and Higher Education Deputy Director, Primary Education Deputy Director, District Programme Officer and Kullu SHO was conducting inquiry into the matter and would submit the report within two days.

He said the school principal had been vacated of his charge during the inquiry.

Some students of the school had issued a complaint with the DC that they were made to sit outside the courtyard, where television had been setup for the interaction of students with the PM.

The school management had reportedly made arrangements for the PM’s televised programme at the residence of the head of the school management committee. However, students in their complaint said they were made to sit in the place meant for the cattle and horses. The students have also alleged discrimination during the midday meals at school.

The DC said strict action would be taken against offenders in this case. He said strict instructions have been issued to the heads of various educational institutions to prevent such incidents.

Members of various social organisations have condemned the alleged discriminatory attitude of the school management. Prem Lal, president of an NGO, said they had reported the matter to the Prime Minister’s Office and sought strict action against those involved in such practices.
