Dharamsala, December 12

Divisional Commissioner Nandita Gupta has sent suggestions to the state government for reducing the pendency of land partition cases.

Addressing newspersons here today, Nandita said in the Revenue Department, most cases were land partition cases. In some cases, these had been delayed for years, causing agony to litigants and land owners.

She had made suggestions to the state government that the cases should be made time-bound and officials should be asked to pass order in a fixed time.

The Divisional Commissioner has proposed various amendments to Land and Revenue Act. The proposal has been sent to government. The amendments are related to service of summons and partition of the lands in the region.

Nandita said two meetings of revenue officers were called. It was discussed to simplify various procedures.

“We have proposed that summons should be delivered to any person residing in the house from where the party belongs to. A publication should be made in newspapers,” she said.

“We have asked the government that if any party applies for land partition, the revenue officer should hear that case in 60 days. The parties, who are applying for partition, should also assist digitally dated photographs, through which the exact situation of the area could be known,” said Gupta.

She further added that a spot map should be prepared when parties and revenue officer reached for the partition process. It should be signed by the parties and the officer, which will further help to carry on a valid process.
