Nurpur youth Congress activists celebrated Rahul Gandhi’s 48th birthday by organising a protest march against the Modi government on Thursday.
Led by state Congress general secretary and former local MLA Ajay Mahajan, the YC workers raised slogans against the Central government for its anti-people policies.
Former MP Chander Kumar, Nurpur district Congress president Karan Maltu, AICC member Manoj Pathania and several office-bearers of the YC units of Nurpur, Indora, Jawali and Fatehpur blocks participated in the protest.
Earlier, members of the youth Congress mahila wing held a protest in front of the office of Irrigation-cum-Public Health Department. Carrying empty pitchers in their hands, the protesters were demanding regular water supply in the area. They broke pitchers in front of the department. Former MLA Ajay Mahajan alleged that people living in the rural areas were reeling under acute water scarcity and getting supply merely twice a week. He said the state had failed to provide regular water supply in the area.
