Protest over poor state of road

Rohru/Shimla, April 17

Apple farmers, traders and transporters today staged a protest at Hatkoti and marched from Rohru Sabji Mandi to the sub-divisional office, Rohru and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister against the PWD and its contractor Chadha and Chadha Construction blaming them for the pathetic condition of the Theog-Kotkhai-Hatkoti-Rohru road.

The farmers said the government should consider the five demands and sought reply in 15 days.

If the government fails to take the corrective measures, they would intensity the stir, they asserted.

Hundreds of farmers gathered under the banner of the Himalayan Apple Growers Society (HAGS), Nandpur, at Hatkoti and raised slogans against the constriction company. The road condition has worsened and commuters are facing tough rides on the road, they resented.

The farmers said the successive state governments had been playing politics over the road.

But the farmers, gathered under HAGS led by its chairman Rajiv Chauhan, secretary Vineet Sarjolta and other members, were a disappointed lot as they found the SDM missing from the office despite they had sought an earlier appointment with him.
