Mandi, April 1
The Border Roads Organisation will open the Rohtang Pass to traffic between Kullu and Lahaul Spiti within one week which will prove to be a big respite for residents of the tribal district.
According to BRO officials, the teams, engaged in the snow-clearing operation, have reached near the Rohtang Pass from both Manali and Koksar side and merely a 700-metre stretch of snow has been left.
Talking to The Tribune, BRO Commander AK Awasthi said, “This time, the weather is favourable, which helped us to speed up the snow-clearing operation from both Manali and Koksar side.
The workforce and machinery were deployed in the region and it is expected that the pass will open in one week, if weather remains favourable in the coming days.”
The people of Lahaul Spiti are waiting desperately for the opening of the road. These days, they are crossing the pass on foot in emergency situations and the district administration has set up rescue posts at Marhi and Koksar to help visitors in time of need.
