Shimla: Former Chief Minister and Kangra MP Shanta Kumar expressed doubts over the CBI claim and said if the “charani”(woodcutter) was the culprit, it deserved appreciation, but if the real culprit had been saved, it would be very unfortunate and shameful.
“It appears incredible that nine police officials, including an IG, are in jail in the custodial death case to save a “charani” and the credibility of the administration is at stake,” he said .
Urging the CBI to reinvestigate the case, Shanta said, “People have lost faith in the police in the Gudiya rape and murder case. If the CBI probe also failed to restore the faith of the people, where will they go”.
Even convener of the Gudiya Nyaya Manch Vijender Mehra has questioned the CBI probe and said: “Is it possible that a woodcutter could keep the CBI in darkness for months? How come the CBI, which was clueless in the case, solved it in no time after the HC asked its Director to be present in the court.
