Shimla, March 5

Residents in Chopal and Dodra Kuar subdivisions in Shimla district and tribal Kinnaur, Spiti and Pangi in Chamba have remained without electricity for the past four day.

The main high-voltage transmission lines from Huli to Chopal remained snapped at several points as many big trees fell on the lines after snow. Supply lines to several villages in Shantha, Dewat, Bamta, Maroag, Tharoach, Daiya, Kupvi, Sarahan remained unrestored.

The PWD failed to restore the road connectivity to Chopal after four days today as Khirki and Charaki had received five feet snow since last Sunday. Even the telephones lines remained snapped in many areas.

Similarly, the residents in tribal Kinnaur, Spiti and the Chnadra valley in Lahaul continue to be in the dark. HPSEBL fails to restore the power supplies to Rekong Peo.

The power supply to Sangla and Chitkul village has remained cut off due to five feet snow. Spiti, Chandra, Jispa and Darcha in Lahaul-Spiti, 70 per cent of villages in Pangi, Tissa and Bharmour in Chamba district and Bara Bhanghal in Kangra district and Barshainin in Kullu district and Seraj areas of Mandi and Kullu remained without electricity, revealed the villagers.

Managing director PC Negi said the 66 kv single circuit power supply had been restored to Rohru, Chhohara, Jubbal areas and the Spail valley, including Baghi, Ratnari, Kalbog, Kyarvi, Nagan, Rawla Kyar and Ramnagar panchayats of Kotkhai, last night.

He said the transmission lines to Chopal, Kinnaur and other areas had been damaged extensively by trees. “We expect the electricity to Chopal, Dodra Kuar, Kinnaur will be restored by this evening or tomorrow as the restoration work is on”, he added.

The major worry is the students who have to appear for the Class XII board examinations scheduled for March 9. Udaipur-Keylong and Darcha-Keylong-Sissu roads remained buried under five feet of snow and glacier has battered the Cumbling nalla on the road as the Border Roads Organisation has cleared just one km from Udaipur, said Jagdish, pradhan Thirot panchayat, which got electricity yesterday after five days.
