Dev Raj Sharma, the only officer from Himachal who was awarded the prestigious Tatrakshak Medal (TM), has been appointed as the Deputy Director-General (Technical), Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), headquarters in Mumbai.
Born and brought up in Shimla, Dev Raj had his initial schooling in Shimla before he shifted to Birla School in Pilani (Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan).
He is the first and only flag officer and inspector-general in the AIR technical cadre of the Indian Coast Guard.
According to a note issued here, Dev Raj was awarded the Tatrak-shak Medal by the President of India for his consistent meritorious services.
In his previous assignments, he led scores of dream projects of the Coast Guard Aviation augmenting the aviation assets and promoted the Make in India initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
