Snow disrupts traffic on Shimla road

CHAMBA: The traffic on the Chamba-Shimla route via Jot road has been diverted via the Chamba-Pathankot national highway passing through Banikhet as the road has been closed due to heavy snowfall.

The traffic on the Chamba-Shimla route via Jot road has been diverted via the Chamba-Pathankot national highway passing through Banikhet as the road has been closed due to heavy snowfall.

Official reports said here today that about 30 cm of snow had been recorded on the Jot Pass area during the last 24 hours due to which it was difficult to drive on this route.

The vehicular traffic had been disrupted following heavy snow in Chobia, Hadsar, Nayagran and other tribal terrains of the Bharmour tribal subdivision, the reports said, adding that some buses had been stranded at Kharamukh and Garola.

Killar town received 60 cm of snow during the last two days, while the Saach Pass situated at an altitude of 4,420 m had been closed due to heavy snow due to which the Pangi tribal valley had been cut off from the rest of the state, the reports said. As many as 15 panchayats in the Churah subdivision of the district had been facing power breakdown following heavy snowfall causing inconvenience to the residents.

Sudesh Mokhta, Deputy Commissioner, Chamba, directed the officials to clear roads and restore the electricity supply as soon as possible.
