Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today warned the BJP leaders against making defamatory statements and asked them to “stop the malicious propaganda or face legal action”.

Launching campaign for Bhoranj (Reserve) Assembly bye-election from Bhareri, the Chief Minister dared state BJP president Satpal Singh Satti to come out with documentary evidence in support of the allegations that liquor procured by Himachal Beverages Corporation was being supplied by relatives of Punjab Chief Minister.

Accusing the BJP leaders of indulging in false propaganda when elections are near, Singh said that “Election cannot be won by misleading the people and winning the hearts of the people through development and welfare programmes is key to victory”. Claiming that, “Empowering women had been a constant endeavour of the Congress party”, the Chief Minister said that fielding Pramila Devi from Bhoranj was manifestation of commitment of government an towards empowerment of women. The Chief Minister said that development had taken place at a fast pace in Bhoranj Assembly segment while the BJP always ignored the interest of this constituency. He said all major works were done in the constituency during successive Congress governments and construction of mini secretariat, opening of sub division office and of government college, installing first state-of-the-art water supply scheme and high road density of the constituency are gifts of the Congress government to the people of the constituency.Speaking on the occasion, Congress candidate, Pramila Devi said that she had served the people of the constituency above party lines and she would be able to serve people more effectively, if given a chance to represent them in the state Assembly.

She said she had high regards for late ID Dhiman, who was elected from this constituency six times, but it was unfortunate that he could not improve the standard of education.
