Eight candidates, including four independents, filed their nomination papers in all four constituencies in lower Kangra district. Sujan Singh Pathania (Congress), Rakesh Pathania and Reeta Dhiman from the BJP filed their nominations from Fatehpur, Nurpur, Indora and Jawali constituencies before local returning officers-cum-SDMs. Rakesh Pathania accompanied by Rajiv Bhardwaj, state BJP vice-president, Lal Singh, Forest Minister, J and K-cum-party election in-charge of Nurpur district, and Dinesh Babbu, MLA Sujanpur (Punjab), and thousands of workers and his supporters took out a rally from Ganoh to Nurpur. In Fatehpur, independent Rajan Sushant, who had been expecting his entry into the BJP, Ashok Somal and Bidhi Chand and BSP candidate OP Chowdhary, filed nomination papers. Supporters of Nirmal Prasad, son of the late BJP MLA of Indora Des Raj, held a meeting at Indora on Friday and gave two-day ultimatum to the party high command to change candidate. Prasad will file his papers as independent on October 23. RK Mankotia filed papers from Jawali. —OC
