The Thakur Ved Ram National Award 2017-18 was conferred on 11 eminent personalities. The ceremony was held to commemorate the 98th birth anniversary of the founder of one of the Asia’s famous handloom co-operative societies — Bhuttico — on Saturday.
National Cooperative Federation, CEO, N Satyanarayan was the chief guest, while Bhuttico chairman and former minister Satya Prakash Thakur presided over the function.
Nepal MP and vice-president of the Nepal Co-operative Federation Om Devi Malla was given the international award for strengthening the cooperative movement. Among others who were awarded include Dr Karan Singh Guleria and 105-year-old Shamsher Singh, Dr Hem Raj Kaushik from Arki of Solan, Editor NCUI Alok Kumar, Dr Jagdish Sharma, Vice-Principal, ACSTI, Shimla, Amla Brahma Kokrajhar from Assam, Dr Vinod Kumar Taneja from Amritsar, Balwir Thakur Hanogi, Tikamein Ram and Rami Devi. A cultural programme was also organised by members of Bhuttico.
