Kisan sangharsh samiti rues inaction against Rohru DFO

SHIMLA: The Kisan Jameen Bachao Sangharsh Samiti on Tuesday lashed out at the district administration for not lodging an FIR against Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Rohru, and stopping an eviction drive against small and BPL farmers of Jubbal tehsil as promised by a team formed under the ADM, Shimla.

The Kisan Jameen Bachao Sangharsh Samiti on Tuesday lashed out at the district administration for not lodging an FIR against Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Rohru, and stopping an eviction drive against small and BPL farmers of Jubbal tehsil as promised by a team formed under the ADM, Shimla.

Farmers alleged that no action had been taken against the DFO in connection with the felling of apple trees from their private land. They said the government had instead lodged an FIR against 55 protesters who gheraoed the office of the Naib Tehildar, Jubbal, on Tuesday.

The samiti has decided to hold a meeting of apple farmers at Hatkoti on May 21 to chalk out further course of action. Meanwhile, the farmers lifted the siege of the Naib Tehsildar office at 2 am following the intervention of a government team formed under ADM GC Negi. Later, leaders of the Himachal Kisan Sabha Rakesh Singha, Dr Kuldip Tanwar and Sanjay Chauhan met Shimla Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap seeking an end to “a one-sided action against apple farmers of the district”. The Shimla DC and the ADM were not available for their comment. On the other hand, police officials have confirmed the registration of an FIR against 55 protesters on the complaint of Naib Tehsildar, Jubbal, Raghuvir Singh Chauhan.
