Walkathon, baby show in Kangra, Kullu

KANGRA: A walkathon ‘Walk for cause’ was organised on International Women’s Day here today. The walkathon was flagged off by Padma Shree Dr Keshma Maitre, national director of the Chinmaya Organisaton for Rural Development.

A walkathon ‘Walk for cause’ was organised on International Women’s Day here today. The walkathon was flagged off by Padma Shree Dr Keshma Maitre, national director of the Chinmaya Organisaton for Rural Development. Women from all walks of life took part in the walkathon and moved through the main market of the town and reached the Fortis Hospital campus.

Dr Maitre said the condition of women was a matter of concern. Efforts had to be made for the uplift and empowerment of women and men should come forward for their support.

The purpose of the event was to pay respect, love and regards to women for their contribution in different fields, she said, while launching a campaign for girl child named ‘Dulari’.

Cultural programmes, including skits regarding the women empowerment, were presented to celebrate the occasion.

Mini marathon in Kullu

Various cultural events and contests were held to mark the district-level celebrations on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Dhalpur. A mini marathon, tug-of-war, baby show and various other contests were held at Dev Sadan and Rath ground.

Various departments and self-help groups had set up exhibitions at the Rath ground and participated in cultural presentations at Dev Sadan. Kullu DC Yunus said women should be given due regard. District Programme Officer Raghubir Sharma welcomed the chief guest and thanked the participating women groups and the authorities of various departments.
