Water conservation our priority: Minister

HAMIRPUR: “Providing sufficient water to people is the priority of our government,” said Mahender Singh, Irrigation and Public Health Minister, here Thursday.

“Providing sufficient water to people is the priority of our government,” said Mahender Singh, Irrigation and Public Health Minister, here Thursday.

He was addressing representatives of panchyati raj institutions in a function ‘Jal hai to Kal hai’. He said the water problem in Shimla had sent a message across the world that conservation of water could no more be ignored and people must stand together to conserve water. Though the water crisis in Shimla was handled, but the government had mooted a plan so that the problem may not arise in coming years.

He said the Centre had approved a plan submitted by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and he had been successful in getting Rs 800 crore for the augmentation of all old water supply schemes.
