The process to withdraw surplus land lying unused with the hydropower projects run by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and other private hydropower project enterprises at different locations of the district is underway.

Deputy Commissioner of Chamba Harikesh Meena at a meeting of district officers held here yesterday said the surplus land withdrawn from hydropower projects would be utilised for the development schemes of the state and the Central governments.

The pending lease cases of hydroelectric projects were also being disposed of, the Deputy Commissioner said.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to issue no-objection certificate (NOC) at the earliest with regard to the old bus stand of Chamba so that a multi-storied parking lot could be constructed at this site thereby solving the problem of parking in the town.

The Deputy Commissioner disclosed that at present there was no data about the number of orphans available in the district; adding that the administration was making efforts to gather the details of orphans with a view to safeguarding the rights of children.

In view of 100 days agenda set by the state government to ensure speedy development, the remaining 96 forest rights committees would be formed in Chamba district in a time-bound manner, the Deputy Commissioner said.
