Jalandhar, June 4

Arhtiyas’ efforts to facilitate the arrival of vegetables and fruits in the mandi here on Monday had a marginal effect as farmers couldn’t sell their products much.

Mandi board officials said the farmers had come to the mandi late in the night and held a protest outside the Maqsuda mandi.

Rashpal Babbu, chairman, Fruit Mandi Arhti Association, said they had been suffering a huge loss due to the protest.

The farmers were allegedly not letting any vehicles to go in and they also held a protest outside the gate, but police officials didn’t let them enter. Today also, the police remained for the whole day in the mandi to avoid any untoward situation.

Milk collectors find new way

Milk collectors are working late in the evening and early morning to supply milk products to homes. As the protest has entered its fourth day, the war between milk men and farmers has become a common sight.

Till now, many reports from various parts of the city of throwing of milk were coming and now the milk collectors have found a new way to reach to the homes to supply the milk.

Milk collectors now choose early morning hours and late night hours to distribute milk. People from rural and city areas said that they were getting milk at around 10.30 pm.“The aim is to avoid any scuffle with farmers and to not indulge in any fight with anyone,” said a milk collector.

Dhaba owner face the heat

Dhaba owners are facing the heat of the protest. Many said the prices of the vegetables had risen steeply and they were not even getting the milk products.

Many dhaba owners said it was becoming difficult for them to run their businesses. They said they had taken vegetables before the protest, but were now wary that they might go out of stock of vegetables in the coming days.
