‘Government must end gender discrimination’

To oppose discrimination against women at work places, the Janwadi Istri Sabha today held a state-level meeting at Bulandpur here today. They also condemned the SAD-BJP government for irregularities in paying widow and old age pensions.

Addressing the gathering, Nilam Ghuman said women in the country were being subjected to the gender-based discrimination in the society and at work places. She said the government had turned a blind eye to harassment of women at work places.

She claimed that due to faulty system, beneficiaries of old age and widow pension in villages were facing hardships in getting their pensions. People have been facing difficulties in getting the benefits of the Shagun Scheme, she added.

She said the violence against women had been on a rise due to ‘politicisation’ of the police and thus victims were unable to get justice. Guman also urged women to get organised to fight against oppressive forces.
