‘Jung-e-Azaadi memorial lighthouse of glorious past’

JALANDHAR: The Local Bodies and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Sidhu today held a meeting with the district administrative officials to finalise the arrangements of a grand function to mark the dedication of the second phase of Jang-e-Azadi memorial by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on March 6.

The Local Bodies and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Sidhu today held a meeting with the district administrative officials to finalise the arrangements of a grand function to mark the dedication of the second phase of Jang-e-Azadi memorial by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on March 6.

The minister had detailed deliberations with the leaders and the officers of the district at the memorial. He exhorted the MP, MLAs, Congress leaders and officers to elicit huge participation of the people from different walks of life on this historic event.

Meanwhile, Sidhu said this memorial was a ‘lighthouse’ that was aptly showcasing the unprecedented valour and commitment of our forefathers to free our motherland from British imperialism.

Soliciting maximum participation of the people from across the district in the function, the minister said it would be the acknowledgement of the enormous contribution made by the unsung heroes and martyrs especially from Punjab in the country’s freedom movement.

He expressed hope that the memorial would act as a beacon to kindle the spirit of nationalism among the future generations.

It was also decided in the meeting that a committee comprising MLA Pargat Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jang-e-Azadi Vinay Bublani would supervise the arrangements at venue of the function. The Committee was also mandated with the task of making the necessary arrangements in term of transport, food, traffic management and others for the success of this mega event.

Earlier, the president of the executive committee of the Jang-e-Azadi foundation, Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard welcomed the minister and said March 6 would be a red letter day for the entire state as it would be the red letter day for the entire staff.
