The Rural police today arrested two persons for allegedly selling 1.5 kg of heroin. A splendor motorcycle was also recovered from their possession.
The accused were identified as Mukhtiar Singh (27) and Karnail Singh (50) from Ferozepur and Surjit Singh (20) from Amritsar.
The police said the accused used to go to Haryana during the harvesting season where they started selling heroin.
According to the police, they had purchased this consignment of heroin for Rs 16 lakh from the border area and it was to be sold in areas of Mehatpur, Nakodar and Kapurthala district.
The police said both accused were in this business for long and used to purchase the heroin from one Joginder Singh, alias Shammy, from Ferozepur who might be the kingpin of the gang. In an another case, the police from Kartarpur arrested Surjit Singh, alias Pala (20), a resident of Amritsar, and recovered 30 gm of heroin from him.
The police said the accused, during interrogation, said due to poverty, they came in contact with bad elements and fell into the business of smuggling narcotics.
