1,613 cases disposed of in National Lok Adalat

Around 1,613 cases were disposed of on the spot during the National Lok Adalat organised here by the District Legal Services Authority on Sunday at the District Judicial Complex here in Jalandhar.

The Civil Judge (Senior Division) cum Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jalandhar Gurmeet Tiwana said National Lok Adalat was organised in the district under the leadership of Chairman of District Legal Services Authority and District and Session Judge Sanjeev Kumar Garg.

He said during this National Lok Adalat, 13 benches including 11 in Jalandhar, one in Phillaur and one in Nakodar were constituted for pending marital disputes in courts, accident claims, cases of recovery, cheque bounces and others. Mr Tiwana said during the National Lok Adalat 8,103 cases were listed for hearing before these 13 benches out of which 1,613 were solved on the spot.

Civil Judge (Senior Division) cum Secretary District Legal Services Authority said 1,613 cases were resolved on the spot and compensation worth Rs 4.76 crore was settled during these Lok Adalats.

He also said people could approach the District Legal Services Authority or the concerned courts for the settlement of cases through the Lok Adalats.

Tiwana said the decision of Lok Adalat was final, which could not be challenged further. The District and Session Judge said Lok Adalats were instrumental in saving time and money of the people besides promoting harmony among the people.
