10-yr RI, fine for drug smugglers

Hoshiarpur: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge here on Tuesday sentenced two persons to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 lakh each in a drugs smuggling case. If the two are not able to pay the penalty, they will have to undergo an additional imprisonment for six months. The Mehtiana police had conducted a checking at Ispur Panchangala village. During this time, a police party was going to Theendan Behabalpur village and stopped two youths riding a scooter. They were identified as Jaswinder Singh, alias Monu, of Padhiana and his companion Suresh Pal of Khanaura village. The cops recovered 150 gm and 130 gm of narcotics powder, respectively, from them. The cops had registered a case against them under the NDPS Act and the court gave its judgment today. oc
