12 candidates in poll fray in Phagwara

PHAGWARA: Eight candidates including sitting MLA Som Parkash filed their nomination papers for the Assembly elections in Phagwara today, the last date for the filing of nominations before SDM Balbir Raj Singh, the Returning Officer, here today.

Eight candidates including sitting MLA Som Parkash filed their nomination papers for the Assembly elections in Phagwara today, the last date for the filing of nominations before SDM Balbir Raj Singh, the Returning Officer, here today. With this, the total number of candidates, including the covering candidates, has risen to 12.

Giving details, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Balbir Raj Singh told the media here today that Som Prakash filed his nominations as the BJP candidate with his son Sahil Kainth filing papers as the covering candidate. Surinder Dhadhey filed papers as the BSP candidate with Sandip Kumar as his covering candidate.

Tirth Ram Khosla filed papers as Bahujan Samaj Party (A) candidate and Ashwini Kumar Sahota as an Independent. Earlier, Jarnail Nangal and his wife Sunita Rani (covering candidate) filed their nomination papers as AAP candidates while Joginder Singh Maan and his son Harnoor Maan filed their nomination papers as Congress candidates from Phagwara. A triangular contest between Congress candidate Joginder Singh Maan, BJP candidate Som Prakash and AAP candidate Jarnail Nangal is all set to be witnessed in Phagwara. —OC
