Jalandhar: Two families of villages near here who had sent their sons to Muscat more than a year back for a better future had their hopes dashed as both drowned in a sea about four days back.



Jalandhar: Two families of villages near here who had sent their sons to Muscat more than a year back for a better future had their hopes dashed as both drowned in a sea about four days back. Tejinder Singh of Masanian village of Adampur and Sukhbir Singh of Rajowal village near Sham Churasi, both aged nearly 26 years, drowned when they had gone to a beach for a holiday. The families of the two youth are related. Tejinder’s father Manjit Singh is an ex-serviceman. Adampur MLA Pawan Tinu has expressed sympathy with families. The bodies of the youth are expected to reach here Thursday morning, he said. . TNS

Czech visa centre

Jalandhar: The Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Mayor of Jalandhar inaugurated the 16th VFS Global Czech Republic Visa Application Centre in India, in Jalandhar, significantly extending the network of visa application facilities in northern India. Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in India, inaugurated the centre in the presence of Sunil Jyoti, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, at Lajpat Nagar on Mahavir Marg. Phagwara: Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Tayyab on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Saanjhi Rasoi’ at Moti Bazar, Palahai Gate. Phagwara SP Parminder Singh Bhandhal, SDM Jyoti Bala, naib tehsildar Swapandeep Kaur and SS Jain Sabha president Subhash Jain were also present on the occasion. The DC said the kitchen’s main objective was to provide meal to each and everyone at a nominal rate of Rs 10 per person. OC

Intoxicant capsules recovered 

Jalandhar:The city police arrested a person with 480 capsules of spasmo proxivon plus and 180 capsules of digifresh-05 on Wednesday. The accused, Shakeel Khan, a resident of Meerut, used to bring narcotics from there and supply to agents in the Doaba region. The police also found that Khan was supplying drugs from the last four years and was a part of a prominent drug syndicate in the region. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.. TNS

Journalist’s death mourned 

Phagwara: Hundreds of prominant citizens including media persons on Wednesday attended the funeral of young journalist Chhavi Bhaskar who lost his life due to kidney failure.
