The district administration has received 851 applications from travel agents for renewing or issuing their licence.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said till date, the administration had issued the licence to 455 travel agents while 150 cases had been filed.
Sharma added that 120 cases were pending for police verification and 126 were under process.
The DC said the remaining applications would be disposed of after the applicants complete their papers.
“The Punjab Government and the district administration are committed to facilitate the travel agents to carry on their business in a legal manner. The administration is duty-bound to provide fulsome support and cooperation to all those travel agents who want to work legally as per rules. I appealed to all travel agents to get the licence for carrying out their work,” the DC added. He reiterated that the administration was committed to provide a congenial atmosphere to the legal travel agents in the district.
However, Sharma said the administration would crackdown on the fake travel agents or those operating in the district without the licence.
He said the immigration industry had a major role in the economy of the state, but the administration could not allow fake travel agents to dupe the innocent people on the pretext on sending them abroad.
