5-yr-old girl brings home silver medal

Jalandhar, June 18

Pawani Bhatia (5), a student of UKG of Swami Sant Dass Public School, is the youngest swimmer of the town and has won the silver medal in the first Punjab State Modern Pentathlon Championship 2018 held at Ludhiana on Saturday

She participated in the U-9 age group category and competed with the players in the age group of 8 and 9 years category. She has been qualified for the nationals in the U-9 age group category, said Pawani’s father Regwinder Bhatia.

He said, “Pawani won the medal on the Father’s Day and its a stupendous gift for me seeing my daughter rising in the sports and carving a niche for herself in swimming.”

He said, “Pawani started swimming at the age of 3 years. She accompany me in various matches and developed interest in swimming. I wish that she should bring medals in the nations.”

He said, “A number of teams from different cities of the state participated in the competition. Jalandhar won three medals in U-7 age group category. Gurnoor Kaur bagged the first position, in the Under-11 age group category. Rehatpeet Kaur bagged the third position and in the U-9 age group category Pawani stood second and they have also qualified for the nationals.
