70 govt staff to handle counting of votes

JALANDHAR: To ensure the timely completion of counting of votes for the Shahkot assembly bypoll, around 70 government employees would be deployed by the district administration at the counting centre on May 31.

Jalandhar, May 19

To ensure the timely completion of counting of votes for the Shahkot assembly bypoll, around 70 government employees would be deployed by the district administration at the counting centre on May 31. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, while presiding over a training programme for the counting staff here at the District Administrative Complex today, said the staff would be entrusted the task of completing the counting of votes in a time-bound manner. The counting would be held at the office of the Director, Land Records, in the presence of the representatives of political parties and the candidates. The DC said the staff would be allocated 13 tables at the counting centre and a three-member team would handle the operation at every table.

The Deputy Commissioner said the report of every round of counting would be submitted by the counting staff to the Returning Officer (RO), who would then compile the final result. He said the counting staff must participate in the rehearsals and the training programmes being organised for them to ensure they perform their duties efficiently on that day. — TNS
