A nine-year-old from Nawanshahr was allegedly raped on Janmashtami.
Daughter of a migrant labourer, the class IV student was returning home with her friends after attending Janmashtami celebrations when the accused Raj Kumar, alias Raju, a 21-year-old labourer from Jharkhand, offered the girl a lift on his cycle and took her to fields and raped her.
The accused was known to the girl’s family and lived near their house. He was arrested by the police and a case under Section 376 of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
The police said after the girl did not come home, her parents searched for her everywhere and found here in the fields in Mehatpur Oladini village. The police got to know about the incident on Wednesday when the parents approached the accused.
The girl was admitted in a hospital and was getting treatment. She was reported to be stable.
