A farmer and a couple get justice for pending disputes

Kapurthala: The National Lok Adalat at Kapurthala on Sunday helped a poor farmer of Sangojla village falling in Kapurthala to retain two-and-half-acre of his agriculture land from the clutches of a money lender who had obtained a decree of his land from a lower court for not repaying his loan amount of Rs 26 lakh in time.



Kapurthala: The National Lok Adalat at Kapurthala on Sunday helped a poor farmer of Sangojla village falling in Kapurthala to retain two-and-half-acre of his agriculture land from the clutches of a money lender who had obtained a decree of his land from a lower court for not repaying his loan amount of Rs 26 lakh in time. Both the parties were under litigation for the past more than ten years.

The District and Sessions Judge RS Rai motivated both the parties and a compromise was reached between both the parties. The decree holder Gurdeep Singh decided to release the land in favour of the farmer Gurdev Singh at a payment of Rs13 lakhs.

The Lok Adalat also settled a matrimonial dispute of an NRI couple under litigation in district courts and Punjab and Haryana high court for the past more than seven years and settled the matrimonial dispute by way of divorce between both the parties. The husband paid the alimony of Rs 9,50,000 to his divorced wife.

The District and Sessions Judge RS Rai told the media persons that 15 Lok Adalats set up in the district on Sunday decided 806 cases and a compensation of rupees 5 crore was awarded to the litigants.

The Chief Judicial magistrate Sanjiv Kundi who is also secretary District legal services Authority disclosed that 2,319 cases came up for hearing in the National Lok Adalat.


14 benches take up cases

As many as 806 cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalats held at Kapurthala, Phagwara and Sultanpur Lodhi on Sunday. Over 2,319 cases were taken up by 14 benches. The cases related to criminal compoundable offences, bank recovery, motor accidental claims, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition cases, electricity and water bills (excluding theft cases), service matters related to pay and allowances, retirement benefits, revenue cases, and civil cases, among others, were taken up. The next National Lok Adalat will be held on July 14.— OC
