Jalandhar, December 6

After many hours of discussions this morning and declaring that it would announce its candidates shortly, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) today made do with its initial 46 candidates whose lists were released in the past three days.

While until 2 pm in the afternoon, the party kept announcing that the remaining candidates would be announced. Eventually, it settled with only the previously released lists.

The nomination of the party’s Ward No. 43 candidate Harcharan Singh was also rejected.

Since his vote is from Subhana village, he could not be considered eligible to contest the MC poll.

District president Babbu Neelkanth said, “The party was screening candidates till late this afternoon. Many from the BJP and the Congress were also being considered but they have not been found up to the mark. Hence, we ditched the new list and stuck to the original one.”

While various candidates of the party, including former councillor Bal Krishna Bali’s daughter-in-law Ramandeep Kaur, are contesting as an Independent despite being given a party ticket, Babbu said he wasn’t aware of the reasons behind the same. He said so far, he had not been able to talk to Bali.

Babbu confirmed the party would release its manifesto for the MC poll tomorrow.
