Additional charge for DC, SDM

Jalandhar: The Punjab government has given additional charge to Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, Varinder Kumar Sharma and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Nakodar, Amrit Singh. A spokesperson for the district administration said that Sharma will officiate as the Divisional Commissioner of Jalandhar till Raj Kamal Chaudhary is on leave. Likewise, SDM Nakodar Amrit Singh has been given the additional charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) till the current incumbent Dr Bhupinder Pal Singh is on leave. TNS

Man beaten to death

Jalandhar:  A 60-year-old man was beaten to death at village Jago Sangha in Nurmehal over a land dispute. The accused are still at large. The police registered an FIR against Satinder Kaur, Sukhwinder Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Harmel Singh under section 302 of the IPC. The victim has been identified as Gurpal Singh. He was assaulted by the other party in which he suffered injuries and while he tried to escape, he fell and died on the spot. The incident happened late on Tuesday night. SHO Surjit Singh said a search was on to look for the accused. Nurmehal falls under the jurisdiction of Nakodar police where five murders have been reported in three days. Two cases of double murder had earlier been reported. On Sunday, at Addi village in Nakodar, a woman and her paramour were killed using sharp weapons. On Tuesday, another case was reported in which a father and son were murdered. Their mutilated bodies were later found. TNS
