Admn gets more than 1,000 applications

JALANDHAR: The district administration has received more than 1,000 applications under the ongoing registration for the state government’s Punjab Shehri Awas Yojana till September 22.

The district administration has received more than 1,000 applications under the ongoing registration for the state government’s Punjab Shehri Awas Yojana till September 22.

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said out of these applications, 282 had been received at the helpdesk constituted in the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, while 781 applications had been received in the 12 other urban local bodies of the district. Out of these applications, 19 were from Municipal Council Bhogpur, 224 from Nagar Panchayat Mehatpur, 27 from Municipal Council Phillaur, 12 from Municipal Council Goraya, 46 from Nagar Panchayat Lohian Khaas, 36 from Municipal Council Adampur, 66 from Municipal Council Nurmahal, 84 from Municipal Council Alawalpur, 136 from Municipal Council Kartarpur, 43 from Municipal Council Nakodar and 44 each from Nagar Panchayats of Bilga and Shahkot.

Meanwhile, the DC, during his visit to Kartarpur on Friday, reviewed the working of the helpdesk at the office of the Municipal Council. During interaction with the staff at the desk, he told them to enroll more and more eligible beneficiaries so that the benefits of the scheme could reach the grassroots level. Sharma also had interaction with the applicants who had come to the office of the council for getting themselves registered under the scheme.

He told senior officials of the civic body to personally monitor the filling of forms by the consultants to ensure that maximum needy people were covered under it. He reiterated the regular monitoring of this flagship programme of the state government to ensure that the dream of urban houseless people to have their own houses was fulfilled.
