Admn to hold two-day camps for physically disabled

JALANDHAR: In order to extend a helping hand to persons suffering from physical disabilities, the District Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, will hold two-day special assessment camps on September 4 and 5 at Red Cross Bhawan from 9 am to 4 pm.

In order to extend a helping hand to persons suffering from physical disabilities, the District Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, will hold two-day special assessment camps on September 4 and 5 at Red Cross Bhawan from 9 am to 4 pm.

Divulging the details about the camps, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said in the camps, being organised under the assistance to disabled persons for purchasing, fitting of aids / appliances (ADIP) scheme of the Government of India, a team of experts would assess the extent of disability of people and prepare a report to distribute artificial limbs, hearing aids, wheel chairs and braile canes, to them free of cost.

He said after compiling the data, a free distribution camp would also be organised to help people suffering from any sort of physical disability.

Sharma said those, who aspire to take benefit of the camp, must produce residential certificate, disability certificate and proof of income, along with photographs.

The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration would extend fulsome support and cooperation to the team. Exhorting the people to take the benefit of the camp, he said any person from across the state could attend the camp. Meanwhile, Sharma asked the officers to embark a special awareness campaign to apprise the people of this exercise, so that they could avail the benefit of the drive.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and the officers of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats to make the people aware about these camps through special announcement at public places like gurdwaras and temples.
