Padma Shri awardee Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal visited Mehr Chand Polytechnic College on its annual prize distribution function as the chief guest. Principal Dr Jagroop Singh and the staff welcomed him by presenting bouquets. Justice NK Sud and Arvind Ghai, secretary, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, also participated as guests of honour. To encourage the students, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal inaugurated two statues prepared by the students. He also inaugurated the exhibition displaying photographs depicting the history of the college. In the beginning, principal Dr Jagroop Singh highlighted the activities of the college. Justice Sud informed that he was satisfied with the progress of the college. Students of the college presented a colourful programme on the occasion. The students also conveyed the message for a green and 'swachh' environment through their songs and choreography. Sant Seechewal honoured more than 100 students on their achievements. In his presidential speech, he informed that the honour being bestowed on him was an honour for the public. By initiating the cleanliness drive, he has only created awareness among the general public. To accomplish this job, the students will have to come forward voluntarily. He also appreciated principal Dr Jagroop Singh and the staff for keeping the campus green. Principal CL Kochher, ML Aeri, principal Raj Kumar Sharma, principal RK Dhawan, principal Vijay Sharma, principal Arwinder Kaur, Baldev Singh Sadaknama, principal Dr Manoj Kumar, principal Ravinder Sharma, principal SK Arora, KL Aggarwal and others were also present on the occasion.

Sports Day

Ivy World School held its sports meet. The chief guest at the event was the president of VES KK Vasal. The other dignitaries who graced the event were the chairman of Ivy World School SK Vasal, Dr RK Vasal, Sonia Vasal, Raghav Vasal and Dr Madhav Rao. S Chauhan, principal of IWS, has been the guiding light for this event. The event began with a warm welcome accorded to the chief guest with the 'Nishan Toli'. This was followed by an impressive march past by the four House contingents of the senior wing students. The most intriguing aspect, embellishing the event, was the splendid field displays, involving student participation.The students participated in various races like 100m, 200m, cycle race and relay race. The culmination of the day was the prize distribution by the chief guest. Kashish was adjudged the best girl student of the year. The best boy student of the year award went to Vansh Salaria. Victor House was declared the best house of the year.

Foreign delegate’s visit

Ramgarhia Educational Council (REC) and Ramgarhia Institute of Engineering and Technology, Phagwara, under REC chairperson Manpreet Kaur Bhogal held a meeting with officials from Concordia University, Wisconsin, USA, to strengthen the official ties between the two organisations. The meeting was organised at the office of Ramgarhia Institute of Engineering and Technology, Phagwara. Dr Vyoma Bhogal Dhatt, Director RGI, Principal RIET Dr Naveen Dhillon and Madam Amanda M Reitz- international advisor from Concordia University, Wisconsin,USA, Bhupendra-India Admission Officer, Krishna Murthy and Twinkle Sharma from Abacus, Amritsar, participated in the event. The discussion was concentrated on various exchange programmes between the two.

Annual day

State Public School celebrated its annual prize distribution function in the school auditorium on Saturday. The function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by vice-president of the school Dr Gagandeep Kaur which was followed by shabad gayan. The achievements of the school were demonstrated through a Power Point presentation. The students of the primary section showcased their talent by performing on various songs. The function culminated with the much awaited prize distribution ceremony in which vice-president Dr Gagandeep Kaur gave away prizes to the students. —TNS
