Jalandhar, February 21

Suresh Bhardwaj, councillor from ward number 2 in the Cantonment area has been appointed the new vice-president of Jalandhar Cantonment Board (JCB). He took over the reins from Sneh Gupta, councillor from ward number 7, who worked as the VP since the Cantonment Board elections held in January 2015.

The change of guard took place at the general house meeting of the Cantonment Board held on Tuesday and was made the VP unanimously by the councillors.

According to the outgoing VP Sneh Gupta, instead of the VP’s post being confined to a single councillor throughout the five-year tenure, it should be rotated among the deserving candidates so as to give development a huge boost in the area.

“My major crusade has been to get mobile towers installed in the Cantonment Board area in which I achieved some success. Now, I have quit the post as I want to focus on upgrading the educational infrastructure in the cantonment area,” said Gupta, who is also a member of the school committee.
