Phagwara: A villager’s house was reportedly burgled at Gannapind village near Phillaur on Tuesday night. The burglars entered Omman’s house after demolishing a wall and took away Rs 3.45 lakh in cash and 18-tola gold ornaments from the house. The police have registered a case. oc

Three drug peddlers arrested

Phagwara: The Phillaur police have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered a huge quantity of intoxicants from their possession on Tuesday night. The police seized 31 intoxicant injections from Vijay and Jaswant, both residents of Palakdin village, and 78 injections from Bal Krishan of Garrha village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. OC

Congress holds dharna

Phagwara: Former Congress Minister Joginder Singh Maan led two protests at Kherra and Khalwara village against the Central government for the rise in fuel prices on Wednesday. Maan, while addressing the protesters, alleged that the union government could not control the price rise of essential commodities. Slogans were also raised by the protesters. OC

One killed in road accident

Phagwara: Aarti Khullar (29) was killed on the spot when she was riding pillion with her brother Ashok Kumar who has sustained serious injuries when their bike was hit by a speeding truck from the rear side near Chiherru on national highway on Wednesday. The injured was admitted in local Civil Hospital. The police have registered a case and sent the body of the deceased to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. oc
