Career counselling module: Jobs, trade for over 2,000

JALANDHAR: While in the block Nakodar alone, many students have made it to positions as medical officers, dental surgeons, teachers, lecturers, income tax officers, police employees and employees in the armed forces, many student pass-outs from the education department are also pursuing higher education at various institutes.

While in the block Nakodar alone, many students have made it to positions as medical officers, dental surgeons, teachers, lecturers, income tax officers, police employees and employees in the armed forces, many student pass-outs from the education department are also pursuing higher education at various institutes.

As per the information received from the department, during the session 2015-16, as many as 2,032 pass-outs from class X and XII took to self-employment and 172 students joined the defence services.

In addition to this, as many as 2,009 students went ahead to pursue higher education in technical courses.

Meanwhile, among placements in the Nakodar block, two students are presently serving as medical officers, one as dental surgeon, lecturer (1), ETT teachers (2), police department (1), constable (2), sepoy with the Army (4), food inspector (1), assistant librarian (1), kanungo (1), accountant (1), clerk (1) and bus conductor (1).

In the session 2015-16, of the 12,858 students in class X, as many as 10,008 students of the class progressed towards higher education pursuing Plus One, diploma and ITI courses. As many as 583 students began pursuing technical education courses, 846 students took to self-employment after pursuing vocational or skill development education from the department, 128 went into the defence services and 734 went to pursue higher education abroad or at other places in India.

In class XII for the same session, of the 9,697 students who pursued education at government schools, as many as 5,767 took to higher studies (pursuing graduation, diplomas), 1,426 students went ahead to pursue technical education courses, 1,186 students were self-employed after passing out from schools, 44 joined the defence services and 739 went abroad or to other places in India for higher studies.

District Guidance Councillor Surjit Lal said, “We are running career counselling modules at various schools and some of them are doing very well. Many of our students are also presently pursuing MBBS and other courses at various places. By the time admissions end this year, we are also expecting word on many other students who have received high placements.”

The district holds a career counselling mela once a year for the last couple of years which helps in boosting employment generation in the education department.
