Kapurthala, December 11

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will inaugurate ITC integrated food manufacturing and logistic facility plant here on Thursday.

CEO and Executive Director, ITC Limited, Sanjiv Puri, will attend the opening ceremony of the project on 62 acres of land allotted by the previous SAD-BJP government at Jhalthikriwal in Kapurthala.

Sukhbir Singh Badal handed over a letter of intent (LoI) to the company at a public function after it assured to make an investment of Rs 700 crore for manufacturing food products, which it recently enhanced to Rs 1,700 crore.

The company had signed an MoU with the state government during the investors’ summit at Mohali in December 2013.

The chunk of land is in integrated mixed-use industrial park.

The company claimed that logistics hub at the proposed site would generate employment for about 2,000 people and would enhance farmers’ income as it was an agro-based plant.

The company, which would manufacture food brands, including Tedhe Medhe snacks, Yippee! instant noodles and Sunfeast biscuits, was now ready to commence operations.
