A national-level UGC-sponsored conference on ‘Recent advances in microbial biotechnology: Application in industry and society,” was held by the PG department of biotechnology at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar.

Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra welcomed the chief guest Padma Shri Awardee Dr Gowrishankar (Former Director, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnosis, Hyderabad). The opening remarks were given by Dr Inderjeet Kaur, Assistant Professor-cum-convener of the conference. The chief guest was given a floral welcome by Principal Dr GS Samra and Department Head Dr Arun Dev Sharma. The second guest of honour was Dr Gurvinder Singh Kocher from PAU, Ludhiana.

Dr GS Kocher told the future of bio-ethanol production. The third resource person was Dr Naveen Gupta (department of microbiology, Punjab University, Chandigarh). Dr Param Pal Sahota, department of microbology, PAU, Ludhiana, was the resource person for the second day of the conference. The second guest of honour for the second day was Dr Anoop Verma, Assistant Professor, School of Energy and Environment, Thapar University (Patiala). The valedictory function was presided by Principal Dr GS Samra, HOD Dr Arun Dev Sharma and conference convener Dr Inderjeet Kaur. Faculty members of the biotechnology department, Dr Harsharan Singh, Prof Gobind Ram, Dr Gurpreet Singh, Dr Shelly Gupta, Prof Vijaeta Joshi, Prof Shubhneet Kaur, research scholar Gurmeen Rakhra were present on the occasion.
